ENGLISH
NINTH GRADE
WORLD LITERATURE I
First Semester
The students will use essential English skills in communicating
with God and others. Students will study core literature from
ancient times through the early Roman period correlated with world
history.
The
ancient literature covered includes Job, Genesis, Esther, and
The Epic of Gilgamish.
The Greek literature covered includes the Iliad, Oedipus Rex,
Antigone, and works by Plato and Aristotle.
The Roman literature covered includes the gospel of Mark, Aeneid,
and Julius Caesar.
Students
will recognize the author's purpose and design for writing. Students
will develop strong study skills, research skills, as well as
fine tune the mechanics of writing many types of composition.
Some of the student writing skills will be descriptive writing,
information writing and persuasive writing in essay form. Some
of the student research skills will be library skills, research
skills and research paper. The mastery of these skills will be
evident in the students' writings, oral communication and use
of technology in presenting ideas.
Second
semester
The students will use essential English skills in communicating
with God and others. Students will study core literature from
medieval times through the Reformation correlated with world history.
The
medieval literature covered includes "Beowulf" as well
as the writings of Thomas Aquinas, Chaucer, Dante, and

Renaissance literature covered includes the Song of Roland, Romeo
and Juliet and selections from Utopia, The Koran, Acts, and Revelation,
as well as the writings of Shakespeare, Donne (Sonnets), and Machiavelli.
The Reformation literature covered includes the writings of Martin
Luther and Erasmus
Students
will recognize the author's purpose and design for writing. Students
will develop strong study skills, research skills, as well as
fine tune the mechanics of writing many types of composition.

TENTH
GRADE
WORLD LITERATURE II
First Semester
The students will use essential English skills in communicating
with God and others. Students will study core literature from
the Enlightenment and Revolution through the turn of the twentieth
century New Thought correlated with world history.
The
Enlightenment and Revolution literature covered is Tartuffe, the
writings of Rousseau, Newton, Descartes, Faust, William Blake,
Wordsworth and George Elliot.
The turn of the New Thought literature covered is the writings
of Emerson, Whitman, Thoreau, Poe, Hawthorne, Melville, Holmes
and Dichemus
Students
will recognize the author's purpose and design for writing. Students
will develop strong study skills, research skills, as well as
fine tune the mechanics of writing many types of composition.
Some of the student writing skills will be descriptive writing,
information writing and persuasive writing in essay form. Some
of the student research skills will be library skills, research

semester

with God and others. Students will study the short story and poetry
during the last century correlated with world history.
The
study will include Pygmalion, Cry, the Beloved Country, The Chosen,
My Antonia, a Russian writer study, Hemingway and Dylan Thomas.
Students
will recognize the author's purpose and design for writing. Students
will develop strong study skills, research skills, as well as
fine tune the mechanics of writing many types of composition.
Some of the student writing skills will be descriptive writing,
information writing and persuasive writing in essay form. Some
of the student research skills will be library skills, research
skills and research paper. The mastery of these skills will be
