The creative nature of God is revealed to
students by studying the God of creation. Students will discuss specifically
what God created on each of the six days of Creation. Students will also
discuss choices they will make in their family and at school. Students
will learn not to choose violence, jealousy or dishonesty, but to choose
obedience. Jesus is the model of a decision-maker that is studied. Students
are introduced to the attributes of Jesus such as love, kindness, gentleness,
and honesty. LANGUAGE ARTS Students will understand that God gave them the ability to speak. They will learn to: Students will know they are responsible for
what they say. They will realize that speech should not hurt one another.
They will know that God gave them the ability to hear. Students will understand
basic listening is important. Students will listen to those God has put
in authority. They will become aware that God listens to them. Students
will know how to be a good listener using Jesus as their example. Students
will discriminate between letters, money and numbers from other symbols,
objects, and figures respectively. Students will be able to look and hold
books correctly and will be able to recognize a dictionary and its uses.
Students will develop their acuity skills by being able to listen to and
correctly identify sounds. They will be able to name and match environmental
sounds. They will also be able to repeat two or three items in correct
sequence. They will be able to identify lower and upper case manuscript
letter and recognize vowels by name. Students will also know posture and
hand position of correct manuscript handwriting. Students will identify,
trace and copy upper and lower case manuscript letters. OTHER LANGUAGES Students will understand that God gave them the ability to speak and understand other languages. In learning a second language, they will
learn to (in the second language): They will know that God gave them the ability
to hear. Students will understand basic listening is important. They will
become aware that God listens to them regardless of what their indigenous
language may be. Students will discriminate between letters, money and
numbers from other symbols, objects, and figures respectively. Students
will develop their acuity skills by being able to listen to and correctly
identify sounds. They will be able to name and match environmental sounds.
They will also be able to repeat two or three items in correct sequence. MATHEMATICS Students will understand that the orderliness
and precision of math are revelations of His nature. Students will know
God cares about numbers and has used numbers in His Word to record information.
The students will understand that numbers began with God and our ability
to understand mathematics comes from Him. Students will be able to match
equal groups and will be able to understand concepts of zero and full
and empty. Students will be able to differentiate size opposites and comparatives.
They will be able to locate first, last and next in a group. Students
will be able to orally count and read numbers one to one hundred. Students
will be able to count objects and trace, copy and write numbers, and order
numerals from least to the greatest one to ten. Students will be able
to read number words one to ten and will be able to add numbers by ones
without materials. Students will learn time terms (morning, afternoon,
and night) and the identification, value, and the use of the penny. SCIENCE Students will be involved in multi-sensory
science activities with the foundational understanding that God created
the universe. Students will learn that the entire universe was created
in 6 days. They will also learn about how the make up of the heavenly
bodies shows God's faithfulness to us and that He is in control. Students
will know that the earth was covered by water before there was any dry
land. Students will study plant life, and will develop the concept that
plants are given to us for food, shelter, and clothing and for pleasure
by a gracious God. Students will develop data acquisition, communication
and relationships using the senses, objects in the environment, science
models, and the environment. HEALTH The students will learn that God created
us uniquely and above all others of His creation. Students will learn
that God is responsible for us and cares about our needs. They will see
how work fits into God's plan for us. They will know that God expects
us to work in order to provide for those needs. The student will know
that God values their bodies by taking proper care of their own body.
The student will recognize that God loves and uses the handicapped body
even with its limitations. The student will identify the proper treatment
towards those with handicaps. They will see that while God might not choose
to restore a limited body, He has the power to do so. The student will
identify the times God restored limited bodies. The student will understand
general individual personal health and safety information including oral
health, cleanliness, and nutritional health and maintaining personal good
health. The student will learn of certain hazards found in their environment.
The student will identify the different sources of pollution and their
responsibility to help protect the environment God has created. SOCIAL STUDIES The students will understand that God is
a God of love and justice, They will be made aware of social skills such
as showing respect for self and others, obedience to those in authority,
being responsible for the earth that God created and gave us stewardship
over, and having proper attitudes toward money, giving, and work. Students
will also be introduced to their responsibilities set forth in the Scriptures
in their relationships with others. FINE ARTS The students will know that by expressing
and fostering their creative abilities, they can glorify God. The students
will know that God's first drama was the creation. They will know that
there is honor in a finished work. Students will learn to appreciate the
talents of others as well as their own. They will see how God gives talents
to be used for His glory. The students will recognize body awareness using
rhythmic, imitative, creative, sensory and pantomime movement. They will
learn how to use vocal expression and dialogue while coordinating body
movements. The students will identify the proper relationship between
the audience and the player. They will learn proper audience etiquette. TECHNOLOGY They will acknowledge that God is concerned
about the details of our life and wants us to give attention to details
as well. They will use technology wisely, recognizing that true wisdom
comes from a right relationship with God. Students will be able to demonstrate
effective use of computer hardware and software. They will understand
the value of well-presented written and technological communication in
influencing people. Students will recognize that perseverance and orderliness
are qualities that bring forth fruit spiritually and practically. PHYSICAL EDUCATION The students will know that they are able
to glorify God through their physical abilities. The students will learn
how the abilities that God has given them can be used to glorify Him.
They will realize that by giving their best effort and completing a task
they honor the Lord. They will know their own abilities, as well as the
abilities of their fellow students. The students will understand how body
movement, rhythm, time, and space relate to their personal life. The students
will explore and develop a fit body through various forms of activities
including age appropriate games and drills. They will see how God has
created beauty through physical activity performed well. Students will
cultivate habits that help them maintain a physically fit body throughout
their lives. |
